Save a frames page

A frames page specifies the number, layout, and appearance of the frames. When you click a link in one frame, the page pointed to by that link is displayed in another frame.

A frames page is a special kind of HTML page that contains no visible content: It's just a container that specifies which other pages to display and how to display them. You can save the frames page itself, as well as the individual pages displayed in each frame.

  1. In Page view of the frames page that you want to save, click the Normal tab.
  2. Click to select the page or frame displaying the page that you want to save, and then click Save Save button.

The Save As dialog box displays a thumbnail showing the layout of the frames page. A dark blue box highlights what you're saving:

    • If the entire outside border of the frames page is highlighted, you're saving the frames page itself.
    • If an individual frame is highlighted, you're saving the page displayed in the frame.
  3. In the File name box, type or select a file name for the highlighted frames page, or for the page displayed in the highlighted frame.

Microsoft FrontPage will repeat this sequence for each unsaved new page or new frames page, until all of the pages and the frames page have been saved.

Tip   To change the page title (that is, the text that you want to appear in the title bar of a browser), click Change, and then in the Set Page Title dialog box, type the new page title.

Save a frames page template

Use this procedure to save your own custom frames page template and add it to the list displayed on the Frames Pages tab.

  1. In Page view, modify the frames page from which you want to create a custom template.

Note   If you set an initial page in any frame, that page will be the default initial page for the frame in every page you create based on the template.

  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save as type box, click FrontPage Template (*.tem).
  4. In the File box, type the file name for your custom template, and then click Save.
  5. In the Save As Template dialog box, in the Title box, type a friendly title for the template. This is the title displayed in the list of templates on the Frames Pages tab of the New dialog box.
  6. In the Description box, type text describing what the template does. This text is displayed in the Description area of the Frames Pages tab.

Tips

  • To replace or overwrite an existing custom template, click Browse, and then in the Templates box, select the template you want to replace.
  • To add a template to the current web to make it available to other authors working on the same web, select the Save template in current web check box. FrontPage creates a Sharedtemplates folder in the current web and adds the new template to it.

Save a page displayed in a frame

A frames page specifies the number, layout, and appearance of the frames. When you click a link in one frame, the page pointed to by that link is displayed in another frame.

A frames page is a special kind of HTML page that contains no visible content: It's just a container that specifies which other pages to display and how to display them. You can save a page displayed in a frame or the frames page itself.

  1. In Page view of the frames page that you want to modify, click the Normal tab.
  2. Click to select the page or frame displaying the page that you want to save, and then click Save Page on the Frames menu.
  3. If you've saved the page before, Microsoft FrontPage saves any changes you've made without prompting.

If you haven't saved the page before, the Save As dialog box displays a thumbnail showing the layout of the frames page. A dark blue box indicates the current page in the highlighted frame.

  4. In the File name box, type or select the appropriate file name for the page displayed in the highlighted frame in the thumbnail.
  5. In the Save as type box, select the type of Web page you want to save.
  6. To change the page title (that is, the text that you want to appear in the title bar of a browser), click Change, and then in the Set Page Title dialog box, type the new page title.

Tip   Once you have saved a page displayed in a frame, click Save As on the Frames menu to save a copy of the page, or to save the page under a different file name, in a different location, or as a different type of file (for example, as a template).
