Create a frames page

A frames page is a special kind of HTML page that divides the browser window into different areas called frames, each of which can display a different page. When you click a hyperlink on a page displayed in one frame, the page pointed to by that hyperlink can be displayed in another frame.
The frames page itself contains no visible content: It's just a container that specifies which other pages to display and how to display them.
When you create a frames page using one of the frames page templates in FrontPage, the navigation between frames is already set up for you. In the Contents frames page template, for example, clicking a hyperlink in the Contents frame on the left displays a page in the Main frame (called the target frame) on the right.
- On the File menu, point to New, click Page, and then click the Frames Pages tab.
- Click a frames page template.
Tip When you click a template, FrontPage displays a thumbnail showing that template's frames layout in the Preview area. It also displays a summary and suggested use of the template in the Description area.
Notes
- After you've created a frames page, you must set the initial page to display in each frame when the frames page is viewed in a browser. Otherwise, the browser will display empty frames.
- You can create your own custom frames page templates, add them to the Frames Pages tab, and share them with your workgroup.
- You can also create a frames page by importing a frames page from the World Wide Web or your corporate intranet. This imports only the frames page, not the pages initially displayed in each frame.
Create a hyperlink to display a page in another frame

When you click a hyperlink on a page that's displayed in one frame of a frames page, the page pointed to by that hyperlink usually opens in another frame (called the target frame).
On frames pages that you create using frames page templates in FrontPage, the navigation between frames is already set up for you. In the Contents template, for example, any hyperlinks you create on the page in the Contents frame automatically display a page in the Main frame.
Note Before using this procedure, you must create and save a frames page, and then in the frame where you want to create the hyperlinks, either set the initial page displayed in that frame or create a new page in that frame.
- In Page view, open the frames page that you want to modify, click the Normal tab, and then click the page where you want to create the hyperlink.
- Type or select the text or picture that you want to use as a hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink
.
- In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, select the page that you want to display in another frame (the target frame).
Delete a frame
Use this procedure to delete a frame from a frames page.
- In Page view, open the frames page you want to modify, click the Normal tab, and then select the frame that you want to delete.
- On the Frames menu, click Delete Frame.
Notes
- This procedure deletes only the frame from the frames page, not the page that was displayed in the frame.
- Any adjacent frame expands accordingly to occupy the space left by the deleted frame.
- If the frames page contains only one frame, you cannot delete the last frame. The page displayed in the remaining frame will occupy the entire browser window when viewed by a visitor to your site.
